  • The Alibi Room

The Alibi Room at 157 Alexander Street, Vancouver. Since summer 2006, owners Raya Audet & Nigel Springthorpe have been quietly turning the Alibi Room into the place for local craft beer on tap. It has become a true Free House, pouring guest beers from all over the province and beyond.

The addition of new head chef Greg Armstrong (formerly chef at Habit Lounge) has added an understated sophistication to its very accessible menu. The menu reflects a strong desire to provide familar, comforting dishes with an emphasis on quality local ingredients. While the Alibi Room's beverage list has the emphasis on beer, it also has a small carefully selected wine list, including Venturi-Schulze.

The Wickaninnish Inn on Chesterman Beach in Tofino is busy all year round, but I can't think of a better time to visit than in the winter season, when you can watch the ocean storms from your tub, take a walk in the rain in the cheery yellow slicker and boots provided by the Inn, and dine in the Pointe Restaurant by the cozy fire with the wild Pacific Ocean lapping at the windows. Our wines are not always in stock, so call ahead to be sure. Phone (250) 725-3100.
